Water

Water is associated with the winter, the time of year when everything has been reduced back to the bare bones. Trees have lost all their leaves and everything has slowed down and is hibernating.

It is a time of pause and rest, when reserves are being replenished in readiness for the following push of the seasons once again. The days are at their shortest. It is dark and cold. The key words for Water are reserves, stamina, power, determination, will, wisdom and going with the flow.

Water is associated with the emotion of fear, the Kidneys and the Bladder, the colour blue, cold, salty taste, bones, the ears and head hair. When in balance, Water energy gives us our ability to see things through with strength and determination and helps us to be prepared for the scary and difficult things in life. Out of balance, we can become fearful at a profound level within ourselves: the sort of paralysing fear that can prevent us from moving on in our lives. It can also bring about a fearlessness which can also be potentially harmful to us. Issues around coming to terms with our own death can also be attributed to Water.
